Nokia launches Deepfield Genome Shield, an automated security platform that actively defends against proxy botnet DDoS attacks from approximately 200 million infected devices by disrupting botnet command and control communications directly at the network edge.

Espoo, Finland – June 2026 – Nokia today announced the launch of Deepfield Genome Shield, a new automated security platform designed to provide communication service providers and enterprises with proactive defense against large-scale distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks. The platform focuses on countering increasingly sophisticated attacks launched by residential proxy botnets, which are becoming a major cybersecurity challenge in the AI era.

Deepfield Genome Shield disrupts botnet command and control (C2) communications directly at the network edge, blocking attack traffic before it reaches the target network. According to Nokia estimates, approximately 200 million devices worldwide are part of such botnets, which are often used to launch high-volume DDoS attacks. The platform leverages real-time network traffic analysis and threat intelligence from Nokia Deepfield to automatically identify and block C2 communications without human intervention.

"As AI technology becomes more widespread, attackers are able to coordinate large-scale botnets more efficiently, making traditional threshold-based defenses inadequate," said a Nokia Cloud and Network Services executive. Its automation significantly reduces the burden on security operations teams while improving defense efficiency.

The launch of Deepfield Genome Shield comes at a time when the frequency and scale of global DDoS attacks continue to rise. According to Nokia Deepfield observations, residential proxy botnets have become the preferred tool for attackers due to their difficulty to trace and the distributed nature of their traffic. The platform is the latest addition to the Nokia Deepfield security portfolio, further strengthening Nokia's leading position in cybersecurity.
